GISD's Response to Governor’s Executive Order GA-3

Godley ISD Families,

In response to the Governor’s Executive Order GA-34 and guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Godley ISD has made the decision to continue its current practice of requiring face coverings for all students and staff members, throughout the remainder of this school year.

We understand that this is a very sensitive and controversial topic that encompasses many different opinions from our community. We all desire a return to normal, but the safety of our staff and students will remain the priority in our school district. Godley ISD has experienced a relatively low number of positive COVID-19 cases this year, and we believe this correlates to the safety procedures that have been in place for the entirety of the school year.

Additionally, the proper use of face coverings is a mitigating factor in determining the definition of “close contact” during contact tracing, per continued TEA guidelines. Therefore, it reduces the likelihood of having to quarantine large groups of students at one time, or potentially having to close campuses if we were to experience an uptick in positive cases. Godley ISD is striving to provide a safe learning environment for all students and staff while also keeping our campuses open for the remainder of the year. As we approach the one-year mark of the 2020 statewide closure that we experienced last spring, it’s hard to ignore the memories of having to send our students home, and essentially ending the school year so abruptly. We feel that we owe it to our students to do everything in our power to help end this difficult school year on a successful note, and believe that our current safety procedures give us the best opportunity to do so.

We appreciate our Wildcat family for continuing to give grace and understanding as we enter into our final few weeks of the 2020-2021 school year.
